The Grass Is Greener Where You Water It

I was engaged by WhatIf Foods, a regenerative agriculture company, to write a report detailing all aspects of their work - from the science of soil health, nutritional value of the Bambara ground nut, to the social impact of their work in the region. As their work comprises of many varied components that are usually thought to be in silos, they wanted to engage a storyteller who could weave everything into one comprehensible narrative.

To do that, they decided that I needed to personally visit their project sites and partners in Tamale, Ghana - to witness the thriving fields of Bambara groundnuts, meet the community that have cultivated them, and observe the dynamics of it all. And so I went :-)

In my time there, I met many inspiring people - one of them being Mashud, who is the on-site partner of WhatIf Foods in Ghana. A jack of all trades and master of all, the self-taught-car-mechanic-turned-regenerative-agriculture-advocate shared with me about how that came to be. He spoke to me about his decisions and turning points; including the false promises of migration, and the drive to create gainful, dignified employment opportunities in his hometown.
