The Power of Networks: Building the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Myanmar

My time as a full-time videographer at video marketing company Vision Strategy Storytelling was filled with many opportunities to travel, meet people and document cool projects. One of my favourites is this opportunity to travel to Yangon, Myanmar, to document the AVPN conference and network.

Besides an event video of the conference, the AVPN team also wanted us to make a short documentary featuring a few social entrepreneurs who are part of their network in Myanmar, but they did not just want a talking-head video of the entrepreneurs sharing about how AVPN had benefited their work. They wanted a short documentary-like feature that would tell the stories of these entrepreneurs - their passions, their struggles and how being part of a network adds value to their mission.

Being behind the camera gives me the opportunity to catch glimpses into people’s lives - I got to learn about the work that they do, their passions, struggles and motivations. It was very moving to hear from these entrepreneurs who embodied a renewed sense of hope, as at that point in time, Myanmar had just gone through a huge political change and they were excited to create and contribute towards a society that they had envisioned.

AVPN is Asia’s #1 social investment network, an ecosystem builder that works to increase the flow of capital towards impact in Asia, ensuring that resources are most effectively deployed.
